ENTHUSE - EDUCATE - EMPOWER
With over twenty years of experience teaching English at a comprehensive school for students aged 11–16, I’ve had the privilege of guiding children of all abilities through their learning journeys. Teaching has always been a delicate balance of highs and lows—celebrating moments of triumph when a struggling student finally grasps a concept, and navigating the challenges of working within the constraints of a large, mixed-ability classroom. Yet, through it all, my passion for teaching and learning has remained steadfast.
In 2020, like so many others, I faced significant change. During the pandemic, I transitioned to online teaching via Google Classroom, delivering five lessons a day to classes of 30 students. This shift revealed the incredible potential of digital learning as a tool for personalised education. Inspired by this transformative experience, I decided to take a step back from full-time classroom teaching to pursue an MA and launch McNee English Tuition. In August 2021, I left the classroom and fully embraced the rewarding world of private tutoring.
Since then, I have worked with a wide range of learners, tailoring my expertise to meet their unique needs. My very first student achieved outstanding A-level results in both English Literature and Language, and I have since continued to build a diverse portfolio of experience:
-
Specialist Lecturer for Secondary English PGCE at Teesside University.
-
Teaching Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths to plumbing and gas engineer apprentices.
-
Tutoring students at KS3, KS4, and A-level in English Literature and Language.
-
International teaching experience, including guiding students in China through To Kill a Mockingbird and preparing another for NMUN in the USA.
-
Homeschooling students in the USA and the UK.
-
Providing school-led tuition at a local high school one day a week.
-
Completing an MA in Creative Writing and Wellbeing with merit.
-
GCSE and iGCSE examiner
Every student I work with represents a unique story, and I take immense pride in the difference I make in their academic and personal growth.
